After Hurricane Harvey impacted their home, we focused on restoring the downstairs, which left the upstairs lacking any aesthetic improvements. This situation is quite common for homes in the Kingwood, TX region due to the flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey. We love to refer to this phenomenon as the “Kingwood Mullet!”
These homeowners were dissatisfied with their “Kingwood Mullet” upstairs and sought to transform that area. In this blog, we are focusing on their family room, which serves as the primary living area on the second floor. They desired a space where the family could gather and unwind together. To achieve this, we incorporated several custom features during the remodel, making this area unique and tailored to their family’s needs. Let’s take a look at this special space!
Overall, our goal was to create a modern and refreshed space that harmonizes with the downstairs area while also serving as a cozy retreat for relaxation. The wall paneling introduces a contemporary flair while infusing a rustic charm, resulting in a soft and inviting atmosphere. We transformed a small computer nook into a visually appealing reading corner, enhancing the area with a unique design feature that adds warmth. Another standout element tailored specifically for this family is the entertainment center. While it may seem like just another piece of furniture at first glance, it cleverly conceals a custom-built puzzle table underneath. Designed with their love for puzzles in mind, this table slides out and unfolds, providing an ideal spot to work on puzzles and store them. Once they’re finished, they can easily fold the table back up and tuck it away under the console for seamless storage that blends perfectly into the space!
